Who hypnosis is for (and who it is not)

Article3,007

This work is not for everyone. And that is okay.

My job is not to convince you. My job is to be clear about when this format helps, and when it does not.

A good fit

This work is often a good fit if:

  • You have tried a lot and you are not looking for "one more method."
  • You want to deal with more than symptoms.
  • You want structure and a clear finish, not therapy with no end.
  • You feel stuck even though you understand the problem and you try hard.
  • You want to take part in the process, not just talk about it.
  • You want real change, not only support or comfort.

Often these are smart, rational, self-directed people. They feel an internal ceiling, but cannot see where it comes from.

Not a good fit

This format is probably not for you if:

  • You mainly want gentle support or just "to feel better."
  • You want advice and someone telling you what to do.
  • You expect fast change without your own effort.
  • You prefer open-ended therapy with no structure.
  • You are not truly ready to change and you are doing therapy "just to say you tried."
  • Change feels dangerous, wrong, or unwanted.
  • You are here only out of curiosity, like "let's see if it works."

I am not trying to be the right match for everyone. I am trying to work with people who are ready to change and know the old way is no longer working.

About readiness

Readiness is not "believing in hypnosis." And it is not the absence of fear.

Readiness is a specific feeling: You have done a lot. But you have hit something you cannot move on your own. Continuing the same way feels pointless. And you are ready to work on a deeper level.

If that feeling is not there, it may be better to wait.

Conclusion

If you read this and something resonates, it may be worth talking. If you feel resistance or doubt, that is also a useful signal.

Sometimes the right decision is not to start right now.
